Overview
“Breakout” is a clone of the classic arcade game designed for playing on the Trazer under freelance contract for TRAQ 3D. Players control the game by running and jumping side to side. I came up with the idea to adapt the game for the Trazer and produced all of the graphics. The game is now playable in any TRAQ 3D fitness center, and is also being used to demonstrate the system at fitness conventions. Check out the game’s official page for more information.

Demo
The actual game is controlled with expensive infrared belts and sensors, so it’s impossible to provide a faithful representation in a PC demo. Instead, here’s an early build of the game before the motion controls were implemented. Of course, that means it’s also before it finished bug testing and cleanup, so please don’t judge the final version by it. Breakout is a lot more fun (and a lot harder!) when you have to run around to play it. To play this build on your PC, use the spacebar to “jump” or launch balls and the mouse to move the paddle. Press ESC to quit.

Notes
I made this game with fellow Georiga Tech students Cory Johnson and Ian Guthridge in a development time of about a month, most of which was spent getting the game to run with the Trazer hardware. I organized the project and set it up with TRAQ 3D. Our success working together led to the formation of our independent game studio.
